Friday Favorites: November 25

I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving!  I must not have eaten enough, because I’m hungry again.  There were a lot of favorites Thanksgiving week.

  • I’m not into getting up at the crack of dawn (or stroke of midnight) for Black Friday shopping.  We started our Christmas shopping in earnest last weekend and earlier this week.  I still have a few more gifts to decide on and other projects, but it seems manageable because I started early.
  • I finished scrapbooking 2010, except the journaling on a couple of pages.
  • I tried some homemade rolls I found on Pinterest.  They were yummy and not too labor intensive.  The best part was they made a lot!
  • My girls were awesome to help out in the kitchen on Pie day and Thanksgiving.  We all worked together the last couple of hours before dinner.  My mom jumped in and helped when she got here too.

If you have time to take a break from shopping and enjoying your family, here’s my favorite links this Friday.

  • Chef Tess shares some recipes for that leftover turkey.  Ours usually makes it to sandwiches and I freeze some for future dinners.
  • Are you tired of pie?  Me either, but these Chocolate Chip Cookie Bars from Two Peas and & Their Pod look mighty good!
  • I’m sure we’ll start decorating for Christmas this weekend.  This snowman from Small Fry & Co. would be a cute addition to our decor.

Please share your favorite part of Thanksgiving and what you are looking forward to this weekend!  I’m hoping to get family pictures taken so I can work on getting Christmas cards mailed out.

Thanksgiving at Arizona Mama

Arizona Mama is in gear for the holidays.  I posted a couple of Thanksgiving articles since the weekend.  First up is our Thankful Cornucopia.  It’s like a gratitude garland for your table.  I also have a great how to article on burning off you Thanksgiving Dinner.

Speaking of Thanksgiving, I’m finishing up my shopping today.  I learned to avoid the grocery stores the day before Thanksgiving.  And besides, tomorrow is Pie Day!

I may or may not be taking a break for the holiday.  Have a safe and happy Thanksgiving.  Be sure to come back and share your favorite pies with me!

Friday Favorites: November 18

It’s the last Friday before Thanksgiving!  It’s been a busy week of Thanksgiving preparations and I’ve been wearing several hats.  Some of my favorite things from this week were:

  • We had so much fun celebrating Thanksgiving at Pack Meeting.
  • I finished reading Lemon Tart. Now I just need to get a hold of the next book in the series, English Trifle.
  • I only have three more layouts to finish up last year! My goal is to be done by the end of November.
  • Tonight is our book club meeting for The Help.  I’m making a Caramel Cake that I found on Pinterest.

Here’s some of my favorites from the blog world.

  • Marta Writes shares her mom’s apple cake recipe.  I need more time to bake all these goodies I find!
  • Creating Keepsakes shares a cute scrapbook layout and a link to their free font.  Maybe this will help me finish up those last three layouts…
  • I love the thumbprint writing prompt Chocolate on my Cranium shares.  I want to try that one with my kids over the summer.
  • This wreath craft from Little Birdie Secrets would be a great way to keep the kiddos busy while Thanksgiving dinner cooks!

Share your favorites of the week!

Thanksgiving Cub Scout Pack Meeting

We had our Cub Scout Pack Meeting a week early this month to reduce the busyness of Thanksgiving week.  Our Thanksgiving theme was a perfect lead in to the holiday!

We kicked things off with a gratitude tree activity.  Our Cubmaster made an awesome tree trunk.  When families arrived, they were invited to trace their hands, cut out the shape and write something they’re thankful for on it.  Then they taped the “leaf” onto the tree.  It filled out nicely.

To commemorate the Pilgrims crossing the sea, we sang My Bonnie Lies over the Ocean.  I’m thinking I could sing that song with the standing and sitting instead of part of my daily workout.

To further my evening workout, we played “Turkey Tag”.  I guess this is also called “Octopus Tag” and probably a bunch of other names.  The pilgrim was “it” and the rest of us were turkeys.  We lined up on one side of the playing area, the pilgrim called “gobble, gobble” and we all ran to the opposite side of the playing area.  Whoever the pilgrim tagged, froze in their spot and tagged other turkeys running by, until there was only one turkey running.  There wasn’t much tagging going on at first, so we enlisted a couple more pilgrims and that added some extra zing to the game.

We closed out the evening with awards.  This month was great we had boys receive their Wolf, Bear and Webelos!  Thanks to awesome leaders who made the night special and brought treats!
