Friday Favorites: November 18

It’s the last Friday before Thanksgiving!  It’s been a busy week of Thanksgiving preparations and I’ve been wearing several hats.  Some of my favorite things from this week were:

  • We had so much fun celebrating Thanksgiving at Pack Meeting.
  • I finished reading Lemon Tart. Now I just need to get a hold of the next book in the series, English Trifle.
  • I only have three more layouts to finish up last year! My goal is to be done by the end of November.
  • Tonight is our book club meeting for The Help.  I’m making a Caramel Cake that I found on Pinterest.

Here’s some of my favorites from the blog world.

  • Marta Writes shares her mom’s apple cake recipe.  I need more time to bake all these goodies I find!
  • Creating Keepsakes shares a cute scrapbook layout and a link to their free font.  Maybe this will help me finish up those last three layouts…
  • I love the thumbprint writing prompt Chocolate on my Cranium shares.  I want to try that one with my kids over the summer.
  • This wreath craft from Little Birdie Secrets would be a great way to keep the kiddos busy while Thanksgiving dinner cooks!

Friday Favorites: October 28

It’s almost the big day; Halloween eve eve eve!  I don’t know about you, but the celebrations have already started here.  Yesterday some of the kiddos went to Schnepf Farms for the last weekend of their Pumpkin and Chili Party.  We will continue the fun all weekend long and into Monday.  My youngest kiddos got a premature dose of reality when the school decided they are too old for class Halloween parties, even though all my older kids enjoyed them through elementary school.  Oh well, we can have fun even without a class party.  My week was very domestic, here are some of my favorites.

  • We finished our Candy Corn Bunting and it turned out so cute!
  • A repaired washing machine; after being down for two days, I have a renewed appreciation for the ability to clean my clothes.  I would have been a horrible pioneer!
  • I started cleaning out my freezer and canned a batch of chicken. The coolest part was canning with my oldest daughter.  I enjoy working with her and I’m glad she’s interested in learning a skill like canning.
  • I fount these No Bake Cookies and Cream Bars on Pinterest.  They were dangerously good and it is the fastest way to make a bag of Oreos disappear!
  • Monday is the kick off of National Write a Novel Month, NaNoWriMo.  I’m not sure I can crank out 50,000 words in a month, but I’ll never know until I try!

Fortunately there are plenty of exciting things in the blog world!

  • Yesterday afternoon, when I went to volunteer in the classroom, I was actually a little chilly.  That means it’s officially soup weather here Arizona – come on it was down to the low 80′s!  That must be why Your Homebased Mom’s Crock Pot Chicken Tortilla Soup looks so good.
  • Joy the Baker’s Roasted Apples sound like my childhood.  My mom used to buy me some frozen apple thing when I was a kid.  I’ll bet these are even better.
  • When we made Pumpkin Bread, I was surprised at how much oil the recipe called for.  I hoped it wasn’t too bad since it wasn’t all in one slice.  I am curious to try New Nostalgia’s No Fat Pumpkin Bread.

I guess everyone else is feeling pretty domestic today too – or maybe that’s what I’m drawn to this week.  Do you like how domestic means food?  Food, domestic or anything else; what’s on your favorite list today?

Friday Favorites: October 21

This has been a week of catch-up, at least half a week of catch up.  With fall break over, I enjoy a lazy day or two to enjoy a quiet house again.  But not too much, there was still plenty going on this week and here are some of my favorites.

  • Book Club.  We got together and discussed The Host for a bit, and then we just talked and enjoyed pumpkin bread.
  • More books.  I started reading The Help for our next book club meeting.  I love the first paragraph!  A friend also let me borrow Lemon Tart.  It’s the first in the series of culinary cozies. Don’t forget to enter to win an iPad in celebration of the latest book in the series, Pumpkin Roll.
  • Relief Society.  We had an activity with treats and games.  I took Caramel Apple Cider Cookies that I found on Pinterest.  I also have the most determined booty, since I won musical chairs.  I also learned a fun new game called “Do You Love your Neighbor?”  It’s another scramble to get a chair game.  Hopefully those competitive games helped burn off all the cookies I ate.
  • The Glitter Academy.  Tonight’s the night I’ve been looking forward to with crafts, ice cream and the chance to be social!  I’m hoping to get a bunch of scrapbooking done tonight!

When I look at my week like that, it’s been an awesome week.  Here’s some other awesome things I found in the blogosphere.

  • Celebrations at Home has a cute, fun Halloween party (I don’t really like scary, gory Halloween).
  • Maybe you could feature these Oreo Candy Bars from In Katrina’s Kitchen.
  • If your kids are going trick or treating, these bags from Your Homebased Mom are adorable.  My kids would want bigger bags, like pillow cases with handles.
  • Not A Supermom shares her solution for mismatched socks.  It just might work…
  • I’m over at Arizona Mama sharing our Family Photo Challenge.  Remember there’s still time to vote!

Friday Favorites: September 16

It’s Friday and September is half over!  It’s almost Christmas, but I’m not worried since I’ve actually started my Christmas shopping.  Sorry that was for my mom, she hates hearing about how I get started early.  Not only is September half over, so is my Nutrition class.  I took my mid-term yesterday.  I think my instructor gave me the wrong study guide because the stuff on the test is not what I’ve been studying all week!  On to things more favorite than my class.

  • I’m so excited about my book club next week.  What should I make for dessert?  I lent out my copy of the book, so I can’t flip it through for some ideas.
  • Pinterest – I know I’m slow on the bandwagon, but better late than never.  It is so much fun seeing all the pretty things!
  • Kids – Last night one of my kiddos corrected me when I called the napkin square; it’s actually a rectangle by about a half inch.  This morning another kiddo wished we could breath in through our noses while breathing out through our mouths so we wouldn’t have to stop to take a breath.  I don’t think this has ever been a problem for me.  My kids definitely keep me laughing!
  • Tomorrow I’m going to Joe’s Farm Grill for Hello there! house meet and greet.

As usual, I have some favorites from my RSS feed too!

  • Since I’m chomping at the bit for fall, these Apple Toffee Blondies from Cookies & Cups are calling my name.  Maybe I should make them for my book club.   Her spider cake is cute too!
  • This card sketch from Got Sketch? makes wish I had time to enjoy card making again.  Maybe in four weeks when I finish my class.

I better stop playing on the computer and get my homework done so I can actually spend time with my family this weekend.  What are your big plans?
