Princess Academy: Palace of Stone Book Review

In August, we read the middle grade / young adult fiction, Princess Academy by Shannon Hale for our family book club. I couldn’t wait for the sequel, Palace of Stone! I’m just as excited to share my book review with you!Palace of Stone Book Review

Coming down from the mountain to a new life in the city is a thrill to Miri. She and her princess academy friends have been brought to Asland to help the future princess Britta prepare for her wedding.There, Miri also has a chance to attend school-at the Queen’s Castle. But as Miri befriends students who seem sophisticated and exciting she also learns that they have some frightening plans. Torn between loyalty to the princess and her new friends’ ideas, between an old love and a new crush, and between her small mountain home and the bustling city, Miri looks to find her own way in this new place. Picking up where Princess Academy left off, and celebrating the joys of friendship, romance and the fate of fairy tale kingdoms, this new book delivers the completely delightful new story that fans have been waiting for. {Amazon}

I can’t say I liked Palace of Stone quite as much as Princess Academy, but it was very good! It was interesting to see how Miri adjusted to the different challenges of a big city, and how she kept her unique point of view despite the changes. My daughter was much harder on Miri as she struggled to gain her bearings early on in the book, but I loved how her motives were true to trying to help people. Throughout everything, she still has a wonderful way of looking at problems. I give it four slices!

Friday Favorites: September 14

Did you know there are only 101 days until Christmas? I think I’ll put up the Halloween decorations so it will feel closer! While I’m patiently waiting, I’ll share this week’s favorites.Hunger Games favorites

  • I just finished Palace of Stone by Shannon Hale. It’s the sequel to I’ll share my review soon.
  • I finally saw the Hunger Games movie. I liked it, but I need to read the book to fill in the gaps where the movie got a little choppy. I’m ready for another book…
  • My mom and I enjoyed facials. I even won a Christian Dior prize package with make up, skin care and perfume!
  • Afterwards we had gelato!
  • Laughed at the ladies comedy night at church.

As you can see, it has been a good week! There’s some fun stuff on my favorite blogs too!

  • Chef in Training’s Nutella Cupcakes reminded me of my yummy gelato. (Yes, I had a chocolate hazelnut gelato.)
  • I don’t know if any of my old t-shirts are cute enough to make one of these Halloween Wreaths from Positively Splendid.
  • The Fall issue of Bird’s Party magazine is online.
  • Finally, Hilary Weeks inspired me with a discussion on becoming who we are meant to be. That might be a great word for next year.

I’d love to hear your favorites from the week!
