Easy as pie? Is pie really easy? It's easy to eat, but not always easy to make. Excellence is easy to appreciate and enjoy, but getting there takes a while. Join me in my Pursuit In Excellence. It won't be quick , but it will be worth it!
For me excellence revolves around motherhood and grandmahood. It is central to my many interests which I use to help my children develop their talents and have fun.
I share my journey here, The Homemaking Cottage and Arizona Mama. Be sure to see what else is cooking!

I finished off my Flagstaff series over at Arizona Mama. We started off at Crater Monument and then the Lowell Observatory and finally the Riordan Mansion. There is so much to do in Flagstaff, I think I’ll have to go back for another week or two.
Please head over and check out my latest post on the amazing Riordan Mansion, it’s almost like being there. Be sure to scroll down and check out my awesome windblown look! While you are there, leave me a comment so I don’t feel lonely.
Have you ever wondered what would happen if we didn’t have volcanoes? That’s just one of the things I learned at Crater Monument when we visited Flagstaff. Who knew a trip to the mountains could be so educational? For more of what I learned, head over to Arizona Mama.
Don’t forget to say “hi” while you’re there!
We’ve been spending time in Flagstaff recently. It’s a beautiful place to escape the heat in the summer and play in the snow in the winter. One of the trademark tourist spots is the Lowell Observatory. I shared the juicy details of what to see and a highlight of the tours available over at Arizona Mama.
The Pluto Discovery tour was my favorite. The walk up to the telescope really puts the distances between planets in perspective! I also love the story of how Pluto was discovered. (I do still feel sorry for Pluto being downgraded from a planet. On this tour we also learned that the moon is getting further away and eventually it will just slip out of the Earth’s gravitational pull. When that happens, the oceans will no longer have tides. Weird!
Have you ever been to the Lowell Observatory? Please stop by, read my post and share your experience. Leave a comment and say hi, even if you’ve never been there!
The kids are out of school and the weather’s confirming that summer is in full swing with temperatures approaching 110! So how does a typical Arizona family have fun in the boiling heat? I don’t know about everyone else but here’s a few of our favorites of the week.
- A trip to Flagstaff – we explored Sunset Crater, Lowell Observatory and the Riordan Mansion.
- ANWA meeting – it’s always good to get my creativity and enthusiasm recharged.
- Arizona Science Center – I was surprised there were already some changes since the last time we went, good ones of coarse.
So maybe we do more to escape the heat instead of having fun in it. Hanging out in the air conditioning, I found these online favorites.
- I love Kari’s view of her son’s camping experience.
- I’m hoping to get some scrapbooking done this weekend and Silhouette’s sketch might be helpful.
- I’m not sure what dulce de leche is, but Your Homebased Mom has a crock pot recipe and it looks yummy!
- Our latest family book club for The Sisters Grimm is up over at Arizona Mama!
So what are your summer favorites?
