Friday Favorites: December 7

Happy December! It’s finally here. This is my favorite season of the year with all the Christmas movies and stories. I can’t forget to give you a rundown of this week’s favorites.Christmas favorites

  • Christmas count down chains – only 18 days left!
  • A competitive weekend – I had kids involved in a math competition and one in a science competition.
  • The Christmas devotional
  • Writing group
  • Band concert
  • Boy Scout Round Table – This month was a showcase of great ideas and programs!
  • I finished reading two Christmas books, Lost December and The Perfect Christmas.

Here’s some online favorites from this week too.

  • I still have NaNoWriMo on the brain. These writing tips from East Valley Writes are inspirational.
  • Looking for a new cookie to try? Two Peas and their Pod have a Browned Butter Snickerdoodle that sounds delicious!
  • Do you like to give books as gifts as much as I do? Shannon Hale has her top reads of the year.
  • I {Heart} Faces has some tips for taking holiday photos.

Friday Favorites: November 16

There’s only six days until Thanksgiving! I’m still working on taking down the Halloween decorations and I’m not sure I’ll get the scarecrows and other Thanksgiving ones up. Fortunately no decorations are needed to share this weeks favorites!gift favorites

  • I spent an afternoon with some cute girls cruising the mall and hitting the movies. Now that I’m finally thinking about Christmas gifts, I guess I should actually start shopping.
  • We saw The Odd Life of Timothy Green (I know, we’re behind on movies). It was sweet, but sad.
  • Time to stock on baking supplies. There were some amazing deals earlier in the week.
  • We laughed til we cried at the local high school improv comedy show. I don’t remember anything that cool when I was in high school. Jesterz look out!

I know you’re dying to hear my favorites from some of my favorite blogs too!

  • I’ve been wanting to host a cookie exchange for a couple of years. Chef in Training’s Lemon Curd Thumbprint Cookies would be an awesome cookie to swap.
  • I’m in some serious motivation to work on my 2011 scrapbook; I have almost 60 pages to finish and my goal was the end of the month! Maybe Creating Keepsakes November / December sketches will inspire me.
  • Part of the Thanksgiving decorations that haven’t been put up is our annual Gratitude Garland. Maybe I’ll skip it and try Somewhat Simple’s Giving Tree instead.

Please share your favorites in a comment. I love to hear what’s on your mind!

Cookies for Santa

The week before Christmas I planned on finishing up my holiday baking with homemade toffee and caramels.  I had several types cookies in the freezer for Christmas Eve and Christmas day dinners, and to share with Santa.  There were several extra dozens for requests to bring cookies here or there, like caroling.  But as the caroling approached, my daughter wasn’t satisfied with the selection from the freezer.  Fortunately, one of the older kiddos had a short day at school and was able to help make Snickerdoodles and relieve the tension.

Apparently my younger daughter was concerned because there was only seven types of goodies to choose from and Santa would get two of the same thing!  I need to make sure she understands that Santa enjoys cookies even two of the same kind, before she has us needing a second freezer to store 20 types of Christmas treats!
