Family Home Evening: Missionary Work

Another Sunday and another Family Home Evening!

Family home evening missionaries Opening Song: Give, Said the Little Stream

Prayer

Scripture: John 4:35

Lesson: Missionary Work

What can we do right here and now to be a good missionary?

  • Be an example
  • Serve others
  • Be obedient
  • Follow the spirit
  • Use familiar terms; for example, congregation instead of Ward

I’ve had the opportunity to go back to work outside of the home. With this opportunity, I’ve shifted from associating from mostly Mormon women to a whole lot of other people from all kinds of different backgrounds, beliefs, and lifestyles. I’ve caught myself needing to redefine or explain my Mormon lingo. To help me and my children to be more aware, we started a “Mormon Dictionary”. This is something that we can refer to that will help us translate some of those terms into something everyone can understand. I was surprised to see how long the list became after a few minutes of brain storming.

Activity: Spoons

Closing Song: Little Jesus

Prayer

Treat: Caramel Cups

I’d like you to spend some time this week thinking about how you as a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints interact with those from different religious backgrounds. One of the men I was talking to was hurt when I referred to those who are not Mormon as non-members. He felt excluded. I’m becoming aware of how our words impact those around us. Leave me a comment to let me know what you discover!
