I like mysteries and I like food, so of course I’m interested in Josi S. Kilpack’s Sadie Hoffmiller Culinary Mystery Series. As a matter of fact, one of my kiddos and I have been drooling over her covers for quite some time. She even gave me one of the books for my birthday, thinking it was the first one in the series. But it turned out it was the fourth, Key Lime Pie. Life’s been so crazy since then, I haven’t taken the time to see how important it is to read the books in order. Maybe you can let me know in a comment so I know if I’d be lost starting with number four. I better get a move since the 6th book, Pumpkin Roll, just came out!

The books do build on each other, so starting with Lemon Tart would be a good idea. You see how Sadie gets into the mystery solving thing and her relationship with Pete progresses through the stories as well. This is such a great series.

I reviewed Pumpkin Roll today. It was the first book I read of the series. Josi did an awesome job with writing the book in a way that let you know it is not the first in the series but giving you enough information to be able to read it out of order. I am going back to read her previous ones. When I finish with 5 I will probably re-read Pumpkin Roll. So really it is up to you if you want to read them out of order. Based on how she pulled Pumpkin Roll together I would say they can be read either way.

I haven’t read Josi’s books, they look interesting, I’m a fan of mysteries, although I usually don’t read very many “cozy” type mysteries, I have found some in the genre I enjoy, and my mom LOVES them. I’ll definitely have to let her know about this series!

Josi’s books are great!
I loved Pumpkin Roll. It’s my favorite of the series. And with this one, you really need to have read the others to get the full impact.
While I think you could enjoy any of the other books in the series as stand-alones, they will all be much better if you start with the first one and read them in order.
This novel sounds great. I can’t wait to read it.

You can probably read the book without having read the others, but that particular book deals a bit more with what happened in past books along with the book specific story line, so you might be a bit lost when it comes to the relationship between some of the characters. But, I would say go for it! I love these books

I would start at the very beginning! They’re all awesome. PR is now my favorite though
I’ve read all Josi’s other culinary mysteries. The mystery in each book is specific to that book, so in that sense reading them in any order is fine. But, there are some developing relationships that build throughout the series that might not be as enjoyable if not read in order.
I’m very excited to read Pumpkin Roll. And, I’d love an iPad.

I don’t think you necessarily need to read in order to enjoy the story. BUT … there is back story stuff that will be told in the next few books, so you might not be as surprised about those events. But as far as the mystery goes, each story is okay read out of order.
I admit I haven’t read all the Sadie books–or in order. (Eep?) But I love all the ones I’ve read, and PR looks absolutely delicious. Can’t wait to dig into that one.
